How to Reset the TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) in an X Series BMW

✅ For Most Newer Models (2017+ with iDrive 6, 7, or 8)

  1. Start the engine (don’t just use accessory mode).

  2. On the iDrive screen:

    • Go to CARVehicle status.

    • Select Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM).

    • Choose Perform Reset (or “Reset Tire Pressure”).

  3. Confirm Reset when prompted.

  4. Drive at least 10–15 minutes above 20 mph. The system will relearn the pressures and show “TPM Active” when complete.

✅ For Older X Models (2011–2016, iDrive 4/5)

  1. Turn on the ignition/start the engine.

  2. Go to Vehicle InfoVehicle Status.

  3. Scroll to Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM).

  4. Select Reset, then confirm.

  5. Drive above 20 mph until the system calibrates.

✅ For Pre-iDrive Button-Based Systems (X5/X3 early 2000s models)

  1. Turn ignition to ON (engine off).

  2. Find the TPMS reset button (commonly near the gear lever, under the dash, or in the glovebox).

  3. Press and hold until the TPMS light blinks.

  4. Start the engine and drive until the warning clears.

⚠️ Important Reminders

  • Always check tire pressures first and set them to BMW’s recommended PSI (on driver’s door jamb sticker).

  • Resetting does not inflate the tires—it just tells the system to learn the new baseline.

  • If the warning comes back quickly:

    • You may have a slow leak or puncture.

    • A TPMS sensor battery might be failing (common after 5–7 years).

    • Or a sensor itself could be damaged
