Operation Repo BMW Style in South Africa

A major misunderstanding between the owner of a new BMW 320d and the dealership in South Africa has escalated so much that the two groups will be going to the High Court in early September to air their grievences. We hope you find it as amusing as we do? And, before we begin, allow BMW of Ridgefield to say: We are on the customers side.

Ravindra Jainarain's BMW that he had purchased didn't have a working air conditioner, so he brought it back to the dealership to have it fixed.  The dealer gave Jainarain a loaner BMW 325 while his car was in the service center.

However things quickly escalated rather quickly. Jainarain felt that his BMW 320d wasn't fixed to the level he had expected, so he wanted either a brand new replacement or for them to have it fixed. Seems reasonable, enough...

Well the BMW dealership would disagree with you. They felt that since Jainarain had not returned the car that they should send a repo team out to get it.  This wasn't just any repo team you see on TruTV.  This repo group came fully armed and had a backup helicopter.  The armed possessors assaulted Jainarian's place of work, taking with them the keys and driving away in the BMW 325 loaner.

With the armed men ordering him to turn over the keys Jainarian's complied.  He however wasn't done and promptly called his lawyer soon after the debacle and through legal means was able to get the 325 loaner back.  BMW also heard word of this and said that he could keep the loaner until the situation was resolved.

The initial court hearing is expected to preside within a month. Though, it could extend for as long as three years. The dealership thinks allowing Jainarian to keep the loaner for this amount of time is completely unacceptable. Thankfully, they don't have veto power.

It will definitely be interesting to see how all of this turns out. Personally, we at BMW of Ridgefield hope the dealership gets sentenced to some hard-core customer service training. Boy, do they need it.
